Description  
 
The design concept for the baches was based on the traditional kiwi bach - simple, open and flexible to encourage informal living - updated to major on indigenous materials and a simple elegance. It is a private location, not overlooked by any other bach. Bach 1 has a king bedded master bedroom (3.6m x 3.35m) with attached en-suite shower room which is adapted for use by a disabled person, an open plan living area with sitting area, dining area and a simple galley style kitchen (10.1m x 3.3m). An L shaped extension to the living area can be partitioned off to form a second queen bedroom (3.35m x 3.3m) with attached en-suite shower room (which functions as a half bath during the day). There is also a washing machine and drier in this second shower room. There is a wooden deck on each side of the bach giving plenty of outside living space. One of these decks can be reached by way of a ramp giving disabled access to the bach. On the other side of the covered entrance porch is a carpeted "sleep out" containing 2 further single beds (5.3m x 3.3m). Located on the banks of the Glenedin River, Riverside Matakana occupies a site of some 15 hectares stretching from the river bank back up the hill to the roadway which runs along the crest of the hill. The 17 baches forming the development are grouped in 4 widely separated clusters giving both privacy and an "away from it all" feeling. The remainder of the site is split between areas of vineyard, olive groves and native bush. Ownership of the vines and the olives is shared between bach owners. On the riverbank there is a boat ramp and jetty which give easy access to the Hauraki Gulf. A water taxi service is available to take guests into Matakana village. Also adjacent to the river bank is an open air swimming pool, boules court and tennis court. Located about 45 minutes north of the Auckland city center Matakana village is the heart of a thriving "go to" area for Aucklanders. The village is a charming, small village with unique food and retail outlets. It is located right at the center of a well developed wine growing area with a number of established wineries welcoming visitors. In addition there are a number of olive groves and market gardens which provide fresh produce and locally produced product to the delis in the village. There are also a number of artists and crafts persons resident in the area providing a range of interesting things to visit and see for holidaymakers. Notable among local attractions is the vibrant and colourful Saturday market which attracts visitors from a wide area and offers a range of craft and food and beverage items to tempt you to open your wallet or purse. Matakana is also located on the coast of the Hauraki Gulf, New Zealand s foremost boating area. It gives easy access to Kawau Island (in particular to Mansion House Bay) and the surrounding waters. Riverside Matakana is professionally managed by on-site managers and benefits from a Qualmark 5 star rating and a Qualmark Enviro Bronze award. Attached to the office and manager s residence is a conference suite which is used to host meetings and other events. The development was completed shortly before the worldwide financial crash and after an encouraging start occupancy levels crashed, particularly those associated with meetings and corporate events. After a change in ownership of the estate matters stabilized and trading is now recovering steadily.
