Area Information:
Los Altos urbanisation is built on the boundary of the national park of Cerro Gordo and was designed from the outset to make it a green and pleasant place to live. It has well kept gardens with palm trees and fruit trees in front of and between the houses which make it very easy on the eye. Not far from the house is the beautiful communal swimming pool perched on a rocky outcrop with equally impressive views of the bay below.
The pretty whitewashed town of La Herradura is on the Costa Tropical in Granada province. It is one of the least developed parts of the south coast and is situated in a beautiful horseshoe bay with dramatic headlands on either side. On one side of the headlands is the unique and picturesque Marina del Este, nestled into the hillside between an island and the headland. It is a haven for the yachting fraternity, offering all the usual marina facilities, as well as being a thriving diving centre. The whole bay and headlands are a marine protection area and because of this it attracts divers to the crystal clear waters.
The area also attracts hang gliders and parachutists who find the gentle updraughts over the headlands are perfect for their sport. Other sporting activities are sea fishing, canoeing, and only one hour away on the new motorway to Granada are the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains with excellent skiing facilities, and of course Granada is the home to the magnificent Alhambra.
The area has become well known for the range of restaurants that can be enjoyed, many actually on the beach so you can dine while virtually dipping your feet in the water!
