Turtles Rest, Abaco, The Bahamas "Turtles Rest" is situated on the wooded, sparsely populated Bahamian Island of Great Abaco, in the quiet exclusive development of Leisure Lee. The adjacent lounge and television area has easy chairs and sofas for 6 plus; off the lounge is an office space with internet and telephone links - this room can also be used as a visitor s sleeping area. The kitchen has a breakfast bar. Stove top cooking is with gas, there is a microwave and New Wave oven as well as a toaster, coffee machine, fridge freezer and washing up machine. All basic catering equipment is available. The master bedroom (queen sized bed) has an en suite bathroom, with double shower, bath tub / Jacuzzi and toilet. There is ample storage for clothing. The second bedroom (queen sized bed ) also has ample storage and the use of a shower room and toilet immediately next to it. In gallery room 1 are two single beds, whilst gallery room 2 has a sofa bed which can be used for a visitor s sleeping space / quiet room or study. Whilst the house accommodates six comfortably, 8 family could stop over! The Island of Abaco is 100 miles long and 1 - 5 miles wide, with a permanent resident population of some 15,000 in numerous small villages adjoining the main highway which runs from North to South. On the East coast is the Sea of Abaco, which is over 100 miles long and between 2 miles and 9 miles wide. It has a maximum depth of some 30 of pristine, warm and crystal clear water, teeming with aquatic life! The Sea of Abaco is separated and protected from the Atlantic, by a chain of over 50 barrier islands, 70% of which are totally uninhabited. The other side of these islands there is a very extensive living reef system, for superb snorkelling, diving etc. To cross the Sea of Abaco on a calm day one can see the bottom all the way ....... The Boats: Little Italy is a 2000 Italian designed and built FIART MARE of Genoa and is the 32ft GENIUS model. It has covered just over 600 hours from new ( 400 hours with us! ) She is powered by twin 215hp Volvo turbo charged, after cooled, 6 cylinder diesels, driving Volvo duo props. This gives a cruising speed of 25 to maximum 40 mph. She carries 120 gallons of diesel, giving a range of some 200 miles. • 40 gallons water ( hot water calorifer ) • Hot & cold water with vacu flush toilet in toilet compartment • Two burner stove and two sinks in galley • Galley AND cockpit refrigerators • Dual battery systems, with isolators/ parallel switching and automatic charging system • Raytheon speed / depth and GPS chart plotter ( plus portable Garmin sat.nav.) • Air conditioned accommodation for up to 4 + 2 • Electro hydraulic cockpit table and hatches • BBQ grill, large bathing platform with ladder / shower / mains hook-up • Large sheltered cockpit, seating up to eight. • Forward deck sun cushions / electric windlass We have happily cruised Grand Bahama, the East coast of Florida to Key West, the Berry Islands, Nassau, Andros and Eluthera. Having the benefit of the hydraulically adjustable I.Os has enabled us to explore the beautiful shallow waters of the Bahamas, where normally vessels of this size and larger are unable to go. The vessel has been regularly serviced and maintained by Volvo specialists in Nassau and Miami. The Party Boat: is a 19ft 6" Hurricane, powered by a 1998 Johnson outboard, which has recently been completely rebuilt, including a new lower unit. The party boat only draws 12" and is extremely stable, having a Boston Whaler type hull. She comfortably seats six and with a large bimini for sheltered protection. She planes easily and has the power to tow a skier; she is perfect for exploring the numerous bays, beaches, shallow creeks and inlets and for swimming, fishing and snorkelling over the reefs. The party boat has an aft boarding ladder for swimmers. The Car: The car is a Toyota Corolla, very reliable with cold AC - nothing special needed in Abaco! *Google Earth ( 2005) Location search: Treasure Cay Marina Bahamas Navigate with cursor 3 miles South,SouthWest along coast from Treasure Cay Marina - you will reach Waterways at Leisure Lee, Turtles rest is at the head of the main waterway at 26-37.10N 77-15.38W The World class Treasure Cay Marina Resort has one of the world s Top Ten beaches, a large Marina, shops, golf course, tennis courts, diving and sports fishing charter boats as well as bars and restaurants and is easily accessible by boat or car. The coast of Abaco has many, many secluded bays, beaches, creeks and inlets that are only accessible by boat and the party boat is ideal for this. Leisure Lee is situated 13 miles north of the town of Marsh Harbour and its airport. The town has several supermarkets, banks, restaurants, resorts, marinas and night life. Ferries are available to take you to all the main islands. There are daily flights to Nassau and Florida.
